Since we got married, Brian and I have enjoyed getting real Christmas Trees but we usually end up at Lowe's in mid-December. This year, on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, we went with the Dukes to a nearby Christmas Tree Farm where you can cut down your own tree.
They take you on a hay ride out to the tree field and hand you a little saw.
We walked around for a bit, but nothing struck us as being THE tree. The field mainly had Virginia Pines, which have longer needles and we were concerned about them dropping their needles more quickly than a Noble Fir or a Frasier Fir.
So we walked back to the main area and picked out a lovely pre-cut 7.5 foot Frasier Fir. The Dukes ended up doing the same thing. We felt a little bad about not cutting down a tree, but at least we gave our business to the local farm instead of Lowes!
We got the tree in its stand that night and decorated it on Monday. Brian always does the lights for us. We had Christmas music on and I worked on addressing our Christmas cards. Don't worry, we straightened out the star!
We collect snowman ornaments when we travel, and this year we added one from our trip to Maine for my cousin's wedding! He has on a yellow rain slicker and is holding a lobster and a lobster trap. He's pretty cute. We got an ornament in Jerusalem too - no luck finding a snowman there!
I love the finished product! It makes our home feel so Christmasy!
Have you decorated yet?
